SHOW ME DHARMA 2017 RETREATS

SAVE THE DATES: SHOW ME DHARMA RETREATS IN 2017

We are pleased to let you know that Show Me Dharma is sponsoring three non-residential meditation retreats in 2017.

May 5-7                   led by Venerable Pannavati

July 21-23               led by Robert Brumet—co-sponsored with Unity Center of Columbia

October 27-29       led by Kate Dresher

Those of us who have sat retreats with these teachers know the inspired ways in which they transmit wisdom and compassion. Please mark your calendars for these wonderful practice opportunities.

Each retreat will be structured with a free talk open to the community on the Friday night, and the retreat held on Saturday 9:00 am-5:00 pm, and Sunday 9:00 am-12:00 pm, with a potluck held after the Sunday morning session. Information on registration will be provided in the future.

Below is biographical information about each of the teachers.

Venerable Dr. Pannavati is Co-Abbot of Embracing Simplicity Hermitage. She has been ordained as a monk in both the Theravada and Mahayana Buddhist traditions. Venerable Pannavati teaches internationally and is known for her humor, approachability and global humanitarian efforts with homeless youth, the Untouchables and bhikkhuni ordination in Thailand.

Robert Brumet is a meditation teacher, writer, and spiritual director. He is the Founder of Mindfulness Ministries, Kansas City MO. He is an ordained Unity Minister, as well as a graduate of Spirit Rock’s Community Dharma Leader program. Robert conducts retreats that focus on meditation, self-awareness and spiritual development. In 2012 he was the recipient of the Unity Worldwide Ministries Light of God Expressing Award.

Kate Dresher has been practicing meditation since 1998 and began teaching in 2010 at the request of her root teacher, Michele McDonald.  She has studied with both Asian and Western meditation masters—mostly notably Sayadaw U Vivekananda and Chanmyay Myaing Sayadaw– and practiced as a nun in Burma. She has also undertaken training in pastoral care as a Buddhist chaplain. She currently resides in Portland, Oregon.

BODHI DAY CEREMONY, MEMBERSHIP MEETING,

AND POTLUCK LUNCH

SUNDAY DECEMBER 11 AT 10:30 AM

Date and Time: Bodhi Day Ceremony Sunday December 11, 10:30 am; Membership Meeting at about 11:30, immediately after the ceremony

Potluck after Membership Meeting

Location: Show Me Dharma, 1600 West Broadway

Join us Sunday December 11 at 10:30 AM for our celebration of Bodhi Day, a brief SMD membership meeting, and a potluck of finger foods afterward.

Bodhi Day is the commemoration of the Buddha’s enlightenment. It is also the celebration of the capacity we all have to awaken to truth, peace, and compassion. At the ceremony, members of the Show Me Dharma Teachers Collective will lead the group in chanting the Buddhist refuges and precepts. We will have a brief meditation, and engage in a cording ceremony. Any member of the Show Me Dharma community, and their family and friends are invited.

Following the ceremony, we will have a brief membership meeting and all are welcome. The purpose of this meeting is to vote on new and renewing board of trustees members for Show Me Dharma.

We will then share fellowship and a potluck of finger foods. Please bring a favorite vegetarian snack to share.

All are welcome. Please join us and bring family and friends!

Show Me Dharma Booth at Pride Fest Saturday August 27 1:00-7:00 PM–Volunteers Needed

SHOW ME DHARMA BOOTH AT MID-MISSOURI PRIDEFEST
SATURDAY AUGUST 27–Please Volunteer

Date and time: Saturday August 27, 1:00 pm-7:00 pm

Location: Rose Music Hall, 1013 Park Avenue at Orr Street, just north of Downtown Columbia

On Saturday August 27, the Mid-Missouri PrideFest will be held in downtown Columbia. Show Me Dharma will have a booth at Pride Fest. We are very happy that we are making our presence known again, and want to invite everyone in the SMD community to be a part of this event.

To make this happen, we need folks to staff our booth. The PrideFest program runs from 1:00 pm till about 7:00 pm. I anticipate that if two people each hour took hour-long shifts, we would need about 15 people.

If you would like to be part of this, please reply with your name and the hour(s) you can offer to be there. If you have any questions or would like to volunteer, please email Joe McCormack at metta41856@gmail.com or or call 573-864-5617.

NO SMD POTLUCK DINNER FOR AUGUST

SHOW ME DHARMA POTLUCK DINNER WILL NOT BE HELD IN AUGUST—WE WILL RESUME IN SEVERAL MONTHS

We will be taking a hiatus on our monthly potluck gatherings for the next several months. We have appreciated the opportunity to get together to share food and fellowship. We hope to resume in the next several months. Please look for an announcement concerning this in a future newsletter.
