We are all in the “human being club” together and at times find life challenging and stressful. Relationships, family issues, a sense of isolation, work, politics, financial strains, loss, all take a toll on our physical and mental health. Through it all, we just want to be happy.
When practicing loving kindness, also known as metta, we cultivate a friendly attitude toward ourselves and others. What is it like to see the good in myself and others? What would it feel like if our heart could smile? Loving kindness is likened to a soft rain that penetrates the heart, relaxing the defense mechanisms associated with fear and negative mental states. When we engage in an active loving kindness practice, we find ourselves attending to daily life with greater calm and happiness.
In this 8-week Loving Kindness class series, we will explore four immeasurable qualities of loving-kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy and equanimity and apply these skills in our daily lives. Free audio downloads to support your meditation practice are included.
About the facilitator: Terry Wilson is the founder of True Nature Center for Wellness. She is a Registered Nurse and earned a Master of Education in Health Promotion and Wellness from the University of Missouri and is certified as a health education specialist. As an RN, she has been in the health and wellness field for over 30 years and early on in her nursing career she became keenly aware of and engaged with human suffering. She is intuitively drawn to a holistic approach to health and believes our spiritual dimension needs to be nurtured to live a quality, peaceful and contented life free of suffering. Terry has been teaching Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, Loving-Kindness Meditation, iRest Yoga Nidra (certified teacher), and Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga (certified facilitator). She also has specialized training in Warriors at Ease, teaching trauma informed yoga and meditation to military members. Terry’s initial mindfulness meditation training started at Show Me Dharma with Ginny Morgan and Phil Jones.
