SHOW ME DHARMA BOARD MEETING
Date and time: Sunday July 11 from 4:00-6:00 pm
Location: Show Me Dharma
The Board of Show Me Dharma welcomes members of the Show Me Dharma community to attend and participate in our bi-monthly board meetings. All are welcome to join the board of trustees as we discuss Show Me Dharma membership, our fall retreat, and a peer leader policy. If you are interested in the workings of Show Me Dharma, we value your interest and your input.
SHOW ME DHARMA SUPPORT
The Show Me Dharma Board has arranged for sangha members to assist other members who are in need of occasional assistance (e.g., support, meals, transportation, walking partners, etc.). If you or another member have appropriate requests please contact Brick Johnstone (573-818-4603) to arrange for help. Similarly, if you are interested in providing such support, please contact him and let him know.
COMMITTED PRACTICE GROUPS
The Committed Practice Groups will resume in the fall. We will announce the topic each of the classes will cover in the next newsletter.
Monday Morning Group 8:00 am-9:30 am with Beth Shoyer and Joe McCormack resumes in the fall.
The Monday Morning class is currently studying the practice of mindfulness of the body, using various readings as a resource for this exploration.
For more information about the Monday Morning Group: Please Contact Joe McCormack at firstname.lastname@example.org or Beth Shoyer at email@example.com or call573 864-5617 to arrange a brief phone interview.
Thursday Evening Group 7:00 pm-8:30 pm with Terry Furstenau will resume in the fall.
For more information about the Thursday Evening Group: Please contact Terry Furstenau at firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange a phone interview.
Cost: Committed Practice Groups are offered on a dana (voluntary donation) basis.
Requirements: The committed practice groups require several months of regular, preferably daily meditation practice, and a working knowledge of Buddhist concepts. It also implies the intention to practice daily, do the homework, and share your practice in class to the extent that you feel comfortable.
Held in a climate of loving-kindness and safety, Committed Practice groups
are designed to help us deepen our practice of meditation and learn to take the
benefits of the practice off the cushion into every part of our human lives.
CHANTING INTO MEDITATION
led by Melinda Staley
Date and Time: Saturday July 11 from 7:00-8:15 pm
Because the first Saturday in July is the 4th, in July we will switch to Saturday, July 11.
Location: Show Me Dharma
Chanting Into Meditation is based on the yogic practice of raising energy and quickly stopping. The mantras chanted carry a vibration that shifts the consciousness into a broader perspective, as well as releasing the places of holding around the heart.
We chant for an extended period, then stop to experience the energy in stillness. Everyone is welcome to enjoy this shared experience and this community of committed practitioners. Shivaratri, an Indian Shiva festival, is celebrated in February, so Shiva chants will be our focus this month.
“Chanting is a way of getting in touch with yourself. It’s an opening of the heart and letting go of the mind and thoughts. It deepens the channel of grace, and it’s a way of being present in the moment.”
We Appreciate Your Generosity
The work of Show Me Dharma is made possible by the generosity of our supporters. The teachings have been kept alive for over 2,500 years thanks to those who have voluntarily given so that others might benefit.
While there is no obligation, for those able to give monetarily, donations are gratefully accepted. Donations are used to pay our rent and utilities, offer our guests tea, support our teachers, offer retreats by guest teachers, and reach out to the community.
To contribute to Show Me Dharma, please write a check made out to SMD and either leave at the Sangha in the appropriate basket or mail it to SMD, C/O Mellodie Wilson, Treasurer, Show Me Dharma, 1600 W. Broadway, Columbia, Mo 65203.
Show Me Dharma is now able to accept donations online, through the services of Click and Pledge. You may use a credit card to make a one-time donation or to set up a recurring monthly donation.
